About Us
DFD's mission is to provide fire protection, rescue services, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors of the Town of Darien, CT.
The Darien Fire Department is the Town's first and largest fire department, protecting life and property since our inception in 1895. We have served at every major fire in Darien for over 100 years, and are comprised 100% by volunteers. We are your friends, neighbors, business owners. Fellow citizens giving back to our community. No alarm too big, no call to small. We continually procure new apparatus and equipment to stay ahead of the technology curve, and tirelessly train our members. Our members are a family, and we treat every alarm like it's our neighbors - because you are.
DFD is led by a talented team of Officers, guided by experienced leaders, and overseen by our Board of Trustees. We come together, pooling our talents and experience in service of a common goal: our sworn commitment to protect life and property.
Our Lifesaving Mission
Staffed 100% by volunteers 24/7/365, we stand ready to answer any alarm. For over 130 years, never missed a job.
Members are certified on all of our fire trucks and trained on a plethora of equipment and tools. We run drills weekly to hone skills; monthly meetings to handle department business; members carry radios for 24/7 response, and are provided sophisticated mobile apps giving them real-time incident information, no matter where they're at. Members are ready to drop everything - at a moment's notice - to respond to any alarm.
